What do you do when your whole world has just gone up in smoke and everything that has any value has exploded right in front of you?

I have been thinking a lot about that since the recent invasions of Abyei on our border with the north.  Some estimate over 100,000 people have fled the area and are wandering displaced after having their worlds decimated all around them.

How do we respond to such incredible pain and misery?  How do we respond to anything that violently tears at the fabric of our lives?

I wish I had some great profundity to share.  I have more questions than answers.  But this I know: I will embrace the unknowing, the uncertainty and walk straight into the questions, the pain, the need.  I will not run from suffering, thinking what we are doing in our little corner is enough.  I will not rationalize blindness because then the darkness has won.

God calls us to carry His light and run into the darkness. And by grace, we are going to do just that.

“Blessed are the peace MAKERS for they shall be called the [mature] sons of God.”  Matt 5:9

In the place of war, in the face of loss and devastation, there is no peace to kept: it must be made.

One hard choice to forgive, one step of trust at a time.  I am blessed to live with a family of peacemakers.  Little lives who have lost the unimaginable and yet trust, love, forgive and even pray for the healing of their enemies.

I know this is a topic there will be much more to say on… but for now, might I request your prayers for all us?

Please join us in praying for the peace of this fledgling nation as it struggles to be born.  Please pray for us as we listen close to Papa’s heart as to what part we can play in bringing His peace into the turmoil.  Please pray for the resources and supernatural provision that is needed beyond our wildest imaginings as fuel prices soar to $14/gallon and over 2000 street children from the north are planned to be dumped in our backyard.  Please pray for wisdom as we lean into Jesus and hear His strategy and timing for our scouting trips into the more war-torn regions to our north.

We don’t hold the answers, but we say yes to being those who MAKE peace in the places of chaos.  We don’t know how it will happen, but we cherish your presence with us in prayer along our journey.
